Experience an exhilarating concert of master percussionists from around the world coming together to perform original music they have collaboratively composed that balances their diverse traditions with innovation.
The performance is the culminating event of the Asheville Percussion Festival, which encompasses a whole week of fabulous events for drummers and world music aficionados: immersive workshops, concerts, sound meditation, and more. This year's theme is Rhythms of Diversity. Selected percussionists from an array of different musical and ethnic traditions have spent a week in residency sharing their expertise, teaching classes, and collaborating with some of Asheville's own very talented musicians and dancers.
This year's concert features four-time Grammy Award winner, Glen Velez; rhythm vocalist, Loire Cotler; and Balinese Gamelan Ensemble from New York, Yowana Sari. We also welcome back Persian daf and tonbak player, Naghmeh Farahmand, and versatile musical prodigy, Adam Maalouf. Locally featured artists include Ivory Coast native djembefola, Adama Dembele; renowned hip-hop dancer and choreographer, Otto Vazquez; members of the Asheville-based Samba group, Zabumba; two-time Grammy Award winning bassist, Eliot Wadopian; acclaimed songwriter, producer, and multi-instrumentalist, Chris Rosser; and the festival's Artistic Director, River Guerguerian.
