nicholas leichter dance performances are pure celebrations, shouting at us all to live life, and large.  The New Yorker says about "Killa" -- one of the works the company is performing in Asheville: " 'Killa' is an apt title for Leichter’s new dance. Killing it, working it, bringing attitude and invention to bear on every beat is the piece’s aim and its pleasure‐giving achievement. African movements, samba hips, the stylings of various Jacksons, and the funky chicken all find a place."  A sneak preview duet work called "Home"  will be performed from the company's upcoming world premier, The Whiz: Obamaland. Completing the evening performances is "Free the Angels" -- a joyous, offertory dance to music by Stevie Wonder which showcases choreographer Leichter's signature style: soulful, kinetic, beautiful.

Pre-performance discussions: A pre-performance discussion will be held at 7:00 p.m. in The Forum at Pack Place before each nicholas leichter dance performance. The discussions will be facilitated by Constance Schrader, Director of Dance at UNC-Asheville, and will focus on music selection as it pertains to dance. Free for ticket holders.

Master Class: Nicholas Leichter will lead a Master Class at the W.C. Reid Center for Creative Arts on Saturday, February 27, 2010 at 1:00 p.m. This is a modern dance master class comprising of modern, jazz and hip-hop elements with an additional segment on audience and theatre etiquette.
