The Laugh Your Asheville Off Team presents "Stand Up for Burma" a stand-up comedy benefit show with comedian Tom Simmons of Comedy Central, Showtime, BET, NBC and the Just for Laughs Comedy Festival to the Diana Wortham Theatre for one night only.
All proceeds from the show will be given to benefit the victims of the deadly cyclone that ravaged Burma. All proceeds will be directed to the "International Burmese Monks Organization" with the help of our new friends at www.avaaz.org.
Experiencing a Tom Simmons show is like watching your best friend entertain you with today's top headlines and issues. He is a soft-spoken, socially relevant comedian performing subject matter that ranges from the easily relatable to the mind stretching funny. Tom Simmons is a reactionary revolutionary with a good heart. "His material is relatable and seriously funny... like a Blue Collar Tour for people that read" (www.standupacademy.com).
Tom once saw a commercial that said, "If you buy drugs, you support terrorism." His response? "Then legalize them, and I'll support healthcare and education!"
Opening comics include Denis McDonough who recently performed in the New York Underground Comedy Festival. Greg Brown and Tom Chalmers of Asheville will also bring the funny. The likeable Joe Zimmerman of Charlotte, NC reprises his role as MC.
