Terpsicorps Theatre of Dance
The Scarlet Letter
August 9-11 8pm
The tale, originally set in Puritan New England, is placed in an unknown time period, a setting lost between the past, present and future, conveying the timeless nature of the story’s themes. The music is a multimedia event all on it’s own.
Musical historian and old time fiddle player, Ian Moore, of The Rib Tips, carefully researched shape note Gospel pieces that originated in Puritan era Boston and are still sung in some Appalachian choirs today.
Moore’s score takes some of these pieces, along with original compositions of his own, and explores them using a 16 person choir; a trio comprised of fiddle, cello and an electronic musician/foley artist. The electronic musician mixes pre-recorded sounds and beats with the live music to lend a heavy industrial feel.
