Pride. Passion. Love. Sorrow. Immerse yourself in a fierce and eclectic evening of Spanish dance and music — stirring solos, sizzling duets, and festive company dances, all of which gorgeously transcend cultural boundaries to convey universal emotions. La Pasión Flamenca is passion-in-motion, a journey back to the cultural crossroads of Andalusia, the southern region of Spain and the birthplace of flamenco. Experience firsthand why the company’s Artistic Director, Carlota Santana, has been hailed as the keeper of the flame for this time-honored Spanish dance form with its vibrant influences from Africa, the Americas, and the Middle East.

Pre-Performance Discussions: Ticket holders can enhance their theatre experience by attending a free pre-performance discussion in The Forum at Diana Wortham Theatre at 7:00 p.m. prior to the 8:00 p.m. performances. The pre-performance discussions are led by members of Flamenco Vivo Carlota Santana. Seating is limited and offered on a first-come, first served basis. We regret that we may not admit patrons to the discussion after 7:10 p.m.
Master Class: Dance students of all skill levels are encouraged to attend a Master Class with a Flamenco Vivo dancer on Wednesday, February 20 at 5:30pm on the Diana Wortham Theatre stage. The class offers a supportive and fun atmosphere, and introduces a brief history of the origins of flamenco dance, music and song, including how the various cultures that inhabited Spain have influenced flamenco.
This hands-on workshop includes instruction in rhythmic handclaps (palmas), arm movements (braceo), body posturing, and footwork (taconeo).
Flamenco technique is woven into a short choreography, and by the end
of the class the participants will be able to “perform” a simple
choreographed dance. Cost is $30 and includes a reception at Cúrate in downtown Asheville after the class. For more information or to register, call the DWT Box Office at 828-257-4530.
