Fall madly – for Kate, Roxanne, or both. Based in New York and London, Aquila Theatre Company’s “two plays in one weekend” is an Asheville tradition. Back-to-back, experience the same remarkably talented cast in different roles, often dissimilar in nature. Aquila is one of the foremost producers of touring theater and is widely renowned for its innovative takes and clever staging of great works throughout the United States and abroad. About Cyrano de Bergerac: Beautifully funny, poignant and often heart wrenching, Cyrano de Bergerac is one of the most famous romantic adventures in world literature. Cyrano is besotted with the beautiful and alluring Roxanne, and yet, because of his famously huge nose, the forlorn Cyrano feels that he can never truly win her heart and keeps his love as a personal and painful secret. In this classic story of unrequited love, Cyrano befriends the handsome Christian de Neuvillette who helps him woo Roxanne by composing elegant love letters and teaching him the arts of eloquence, courtship and poetry. Living his love vicariously through Christian, while desperately yearning for the truth, Cyrano’s passionate adventure unfolds. With Aquila’s trademark attention to movement and the visual arts, Cyrano de Bergerac promises to be a wonderful evening of live theatre of the highest caliber.
Intersections - Pre-Show Discussion: Ticket holders can enhance their theatre experience by attending a free pre-performance discussion in The Forum at Diana Wortham Theatre at 7:00 p.m. The Cyrano de Bergerac discussion on February 1 is led by members of Aquila Theatre. Seating is limited and offered on a first-come, first served basis. We regret that we may not admit patrons to the discussion after 7:10 p.m.
