As a member of the esteemed group Pearl Django, Greg spent five years performing and touring the world, including the prestigious Django Reinhardt Festival in France. Reviewer Christopher Anderson’s assessment of Greg’s 2010 recording: "’Look Both Ways’ by the Seattle-based Greg Ruby Quartet is a well thought out, refreshing delight that grooves and swings effortlessly, transporting this listener into a 1930’s trance of instruments dancing with overtones of tango, waltz and sheer fantasy.”
In 2010 Greg received artist grants through The City of Seattle's Office of Arts and Cultural Affairs to compose, record, and perform original compositions inspired by Django Reinhardt. Look Both Ways' earned rare praise: “Seattle’s Greg Ruby swings with abandon on this collection of stylish Gypsy jazz. Trading solos with violinist Evan Price – and with guest guitar on two tracks by Frank Vignola – this is truly hot jazz.”-Michael Dregni, Vintage Guitar Magazine.
