Pilobolus
Acclaimed for its mix of humor, invention, and drama, Pilobolus began as an experiment among three guys and one puzzled professor in a Dartmouth College dance class back in 1970. It was survival of the giddiest, as the three non-dancers goofed around with the material they'd been given -- themselves -- and got entangled in various science-inspired poses and movements. From these humble, biological beginnings emerged an innovative, unlikely, and hugely popular dance company, now 40 years strong, that combines athleticism and grace with a profound sense of unity. Utilizing a dance vocabulary that is all its own, Pilobolus has wowed audiences with performances around the globe, including three Olympics opening ceremonies and a 2007 guest feature on the Academy Awards.
