8:00pm
One of country and traditional music’s top female vocalists. The beloved, Grammy-winning singer of such classics as "18 Wheels and A Dozen Roses," "Where've You Been," and many other hits is on a “Moving Mountains” tour with her acoustic band. Mattea’s fresh look at Appalachian music touches on one of the most important topics facing America today: COAL, which is also the title of her newest release. Mattea pays wide-ranging tribute to the place and people of her West Virginia childhood through labor songs, mining songs, and songs that articulate the lifestyle and the bigger struggles. An emotive evening of the works of celebrated songwriters such as Jean Ritchie, Hazel Dickens, Si Kahn, Utah Phillips, Merle Travis, Darrell Scott and Asheville’s own Billy Edd Wheeler.
