Western North Carolina Jazz Society presents Edmar Castaneda Quartet: Colombian Harp
September 13
7:00 pm
Edmar Castaneda’s style on the Colombian harp is fascinatingly percussive as he plucks dynamic bass lines with his left hand while almost invisibly picking out melodies and solo lines with his right hand. His music is suffused with jazz harmony, Brazilian and Afro-Cuban rhythms and traces of música llanera, the dance and folk vernacular of the Colombian plains.
No, he’s not a one-man band. He’s practically a one-man orchestra, the Hendrix—or at least the Charlie Hunter—of the harp, linking a train of complex and richly textured sound to a locomotive of hot Pan-American rhythm.
Tickets: Regular $30, WNC Jazz Society Members $22, Students $10
