Bearfoot showcases bluegrass licks that appeal to traditionalists as well as “newgrass” audiences with pop influences (including a pretty rendition of The Beatles’ "Don’t Let Me Down"). The band gained national notoriety in 2001 by winning the acclaimed Telluride Bluegrass Band Contest. Asheville audiences can delight in the fact that adored fiddler/vocalist Odessa Jorgenson, formerly of The Biscuit Burners, is now lead vocalist with Bearfoot. Jorgensen’s subtle inflections sound like a cross between Norah Jones and Suzanne Vega—a style that brings out the flavor of the strong, old-timey instrumentation. Country-flavored ballads, John Hiatt covers, traditional harmonies, and hot new riffs – all reasons to come enjoy Bearfoot.
